St. James’ Settlement Jockey Club Upcycling Centre is the first of its type in Hong Kong, as the landfill problem is urgent and the people following the environment issue recently. By converting waste into new products of creation, this initiative offers job opportunities for around 1,000 previously mental patients.
It locates in Wan Chai, and it has a material library to stock waste materials that they collected, studios rented by designers as their studios. The centre as a platform for designers to reconsider the link in between discard materials and their ideas, and previous mental patients as workers to contribute on the upcycling production.
