Preparation

Location

In term of the location for the project realization, it was planned to settle in Hong Kong originally, and seek for the participation of high school students. However, the location changed due to the family issue, switched from Hong Kong to Dongguan city.

I decided to contact the company that I used to work in Dongguan, asked for if there are any chance that I can hold the workshop event in this factory. The company is called “KAM TAT Lighting”, a well-known chandelier company in the lighting industry of China, located in the Wangniudun area of Dongguan.

Participants

It should be noted that the choice of participants also relates to the outcome of workshop,I invited 11 participants from the Tung Wah Senior High School in Dongguan joined this project, and they are all Hong Kong background students attending the mainland High School.

 

Material

The manager from the factory happy to provide these pallets as materials for us to use in the workshop. The workshop planned on the 14^th of July, the reason is the day before this workshop there was a welcome party held for foreign visitors. In the situation, guests drunk a lot of drinks and left plenty of plastic bottles over the site.

Workers would abandon those wooden pallets for disposal purpose, when they unpacked the cargo from the pallets, it became worthless and no one willing to reuse. Because if the company wants to reuse these pallets, the driver needs to take an empty run in order to return these back to where it came from. Therefore, to utilizes these pallets again is a higher cost action than the disposal of wooden pallets.
